right so im trying to overclock the cpu, we use the 4ghz profile from asus, and it fails, and 3 drives 'dissapear' from the bios, so clear cmos, now the pc wont boot gets stuck on qcode led '55' and '3b' cant fathom what went wrong?

specs

ryzen 5 1600x

asus crosshair 6 mobo

hyper 212 evo

kingston hyper x 2400mhz 16gb kit

if anyone could give insight on how to fix these problem, many thanks

Turn off pc, pull plug, hold the on/off switch for 5 seconds and turn it back on. Are you sure you cleared it properly?

tried it,

tried it,

I'm always wary of baked-in overclock profiles. Do you know how much voltage it used?

The STOCK auto voltage on my motherboard wanted to run 1.375-1.48v through my chip. I had to manually undervolt. If that's the case with more than just my mobo (Asus Prime B350 Plus), the OC profile might've run even more juice through.

AMD said the maximum safe voltage is 1.425v.

Current Build:

Mobo: Asus Tuf X570 Plus Wifi

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X53

PSU: EVGA G6 Supernova 850

Current Laptop:

Model: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900HS

GPU: RTX 3060

it was 1.438v, my 1800x has presented no issues in running that high, i have the identical board, this is really confusing as to why clear cmos is having no effect

Not all chips are made equal. You might've gotten unlucky, but yeah it most likely wouldn't have died after one boot like that.

Afaik the most you can do to reset a mobo is just to clear CMOS, reseat RAM; things like that. If possible, try the CPU and RAM in another board. If they work, then you might be in RMA territory.

I'm no expert on boot issues, I just wanted to ask about voltage since Asus can run more voltage than necessary through the chip on these boards.

is it more likely to be a dead cpu?(i doubt this one becuase we managed to get into the bios to see drives where missing, issues happened after cleaing cmos using the button on the i/o place)

or a goofed board?

It could be RAM (reseat into different slots and test one stick at a time; test in another board).

It could be CPU (test in another board if possible).

It could be mobo (the other parts are fine).
