I started Litecoin mining...

Today I decided would be the day that I'd put an old computer to use, which is litecoin mining. With an old A8-5600K APU and 8GB of ram. I was looking at the program and It says I'm mining at 50.2 Mhash/s. Is this like a processor doing 800Megahertz but in the hash form? lol. I saw some people running at 700Mhash/s and is that faster than me? Or is my speed collective with the other people on the mining group? Thanks. 

 

 

~BTW, I'm very new to litecoin mining so I am very noobish. :P

Mining Litecoin is best done on AMD GPU's, mining on a cpu is somewhat pointless at this point due to the low hash and high power consumption.

 

 

Bitcoin is depicted in amounts of M/hash and G/hash.

Litecoin is depicted in amounts of K/hash and M/hash.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

I'm using the GPU on my APU, so the 7560D. Which isn't doing too bad right now.

Not worthwhile mining at that low of a hashrate.

Yeah I thought so, I just did it for the heck of it. Maybe I'll have to get like a 7850 on black friday to run in there.

Get the 7950 if possible. Best value for your $$$$$

The 7970/7950 is the best choice for Litecoin mining in terms of the cost of the card and performance they give.

 

If you plan to use your computer while mining, I'd look into getting a 7970. They run at a lower intensity allowing you to browse and do work, although certain brands perform better/worse for mining. Avoid Ghz edition if you can, don't get XFX their cooler doesn't work well with mining. If you want to compare cards, divide the amount of hash they can get by the price to find the dollar per hash ratio.
