Gaming CPU + GTX 1060 SC 6GB

Hello Everyone :)

 

I have a choice to make between two set ups that I currently have, currently I have an old Dell optiplex 990 with an i7 2600, and a newer asus desktop i got gifted that has an i5-7400 cpu. 

 

My question is, between these two cpu's for right now performance which one should i pair with a gtx 1060 sc?

i5, it will game a little better with its IPC. 

 

 

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Thanks for all the help guys! So i will be then installing my gpu into that system! :) I guess as an added bonus the ram is also faster than ddr3 so that works :)

As others have said, the i5 is the better choice. On top of that, you also have a solid upgrade path if you decide to put an i7 7700 in there later on or even get a z series board and k series chip since you already have DDR4.

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

i5 7th-gen vs i7 2nd-gen. I think that's a pretty obvious choice. For gaming, the i5 will definitely be better. Sure, the i7 might handle multi-threaded workloads slightly better, but it's not worth the lack of future support for a six year old CPU.
