Possible to deactivate windows key?

I am thinking about an SSD and I have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416712

My question is can I deactivate my windows key now and then put it on another PC or on the SSD?

Yes open command promt as admin and type

 

slmgr.vbs /upk

Actually I think he means windows activation (cdkey) code, not the actual keyboard key. Read the message....

 

Yes, I believe it can be deactivated as some of users in this forum suggest it when dealing with OEM software. But you'll get no updates after deactivation and annoying popup on every logon.

 

(Damn morning with all the typos.)

 

E: usually I don't recheck links, but this time I did. You have retail version of Win 8.1. You don't need to deactivate it before installation.
