So google is getting me questionable results. I, like most people, upgraded windows 7 home premium to Windows 10. This is a RETAIL copy, so I hear it can be transferred? I wish to transfer it to my new computer that I will be ordering shortly (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BNfF6X), however I have no desire for linux or the illegality of pirating Windows. Is it even possible to transfer or is google giving me bad info, and if it is possible will I get Windows 10 or Windows 7?

Thanks!

It's possible to transfer either via a clean install or cloning of your current drive. Since you're moving from one system to another (rather than drive to drive), I'd go with a clean install.

Ok! Would it be win 7 or win10? And can you send me a link or something on how exactly I would go about doing that?

Either should work.

For Windows 10, make sure the key is attached to your Microsoft account.

For Windows 7, you'll need to have your Product Key handy.

For a clean install:

You'll need to grab an ISO for the OS of your choice.

Format and create a bootable USB (8GB) with the ISO using Microsoft's program or Rufus.

Boot into the USB and the OS will start to install once you punch in your key (Win 7) or go through automatically (Windows 10).

If you're moving the same drive across, you can just attach the drive to the new build and reactivate by calling in or doing the online option.
