I really need help with a Macbook Pro mid-2012 13". It's been running very slow lately so I decided to get an SSD as an upgrade. I've tried cloning it with Super Duper and haven't been able to get it to boot. I've gone through Disk Utility and erased the SSD, set it up as MacOS Extended (journaled). The drive is an 850 Evo 500gb if that makes any difference. When booting I get the gray Folder with a ? in it. Does not go past that. Weird thing is when i dock it externally via usb it boots from there. Any help please been on this for 4 days.

Hmmm. I've got a 2012 13" MBP as well, and Super Duper worked fine for my Crucial MX300. Try booting from a USB and install macOS from there.

I have Sierra on the Mac right now. Whenever I boot to recovery it goes to internet recovery and gives me the option to install Lion. Will I be able to get back to Sierra for free after that?

IDK. Just make a bootable USB and boot from that. And if you formatted the SSD, there isn't any OS on the Mac. Unless you have a second drive in the disc drive bay...

If your machine does not boot when drive installed internally, and can boot via external enclosure, then you might have a dead sata cable in it.

Go to any local hardware store and buy one, it should be cheap.

It is a known issue for macbook pro 2012 non retina version. 1lQHKqaBdFXywoJO.thumb.jpeg.b44d69d22654325214f0648de305e231.jpeg

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
