So, I just bought a refurbished HP Z820 workstation. Before I bought this pc, I installed windows on an SSD, so that I could get my pc running right away. However, I get the error message "Non-system disk or disk error" when trying to boot from this SSD from this new pc.

I know this SSD is working and that the OS is working, because it worked on my other pc. I also tried 2 cd's and one usb with windows ios file on them. All three didn't work and I'm sure they were in the correct boot order. Even if they weren't, overriding that boot order didn't help either.

Meaning that I'm kinda lost and I don't know what to do. How on earth do I fix this?

You have to install windows on the system that you're going to be using

you can't install windows on an SSD using PC 1 and then shoving it on PC 2 because something to do with anti piracy

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Installing an OS in a different system and then putting it elsewhere is almost always a horrible idea, since the chipset, CPU, RAM, everything changes in a second.

Set BIOS settings to defaults, set your boot device for a clean install and install windows again on the new laptop, check for drivers.

You need to clean install windows on the SSD again now that's it's plugged into the correct computer.

You can start the instillation in another computer but as it restarts the first time yo need to turn it off ad remove the drive and then put it into the PC you want your new OS to be on, It works for windows 7 anyway.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
