Should i upgrade

so Running a I7  920 with 12gigs of ram and a 1080 and a 500GB SSD i was thinking of upgrading but i'm s running all my games on ultra settings .. is the difference of first gen i7 vs 7th gen i7 worth it or should i wait until my PC completely dies!!!

Well, first gen is really underpowered today... If it was 2gen you could still wait, but I think you should upgrade

Go with a Xeon X56?? series CPU, the 920 is pretty bad.

Them X56?? cpus are dirt cheap as well. Say $50 to $75 and you are up in the 2nd gen intel cpu area.

But if you want to build a new system, then I'd suggest you rock out with a Ryzen 1600 or 1700 cpu and a half decent mobo. That is your foundation you should build on.

 

If you want to save a few bucks, then a refurbished 4th gen cpu or refurb 3rd gen cpu is an excellent choice as well. Bestbuy sells them. Newegg as well. Or just buy one out of the online classifieds. I always keep my eye on them, because sometimes you can find something good, then low-ball them and they will sell.

Yeah..1st gen i7s, while good in their day, aren't that powerful today. It's kinda like the Q6600. You can still use it, but it's a fossil.

You just use a Xeon instead, a great upgrade for the CPU for $50, you cant go wrong. Plus it should last even longer. Then you just upgrade to a better faster hard drive, more ram. Plus if the OP has a mobo that you can OC then thats even better.

You'll be waiting a long time if you wait for everything to die before you upgrade.

 

Get an R5 1600 or an i7 7700(k) depending on what you do.

If you're stilling running games at ultra with no problem then dont upgrade. Also its good to post your resolution and refreshrate.

Uhhhh....sure! I used to have an i7 920 actually. No clue where it is now, it literally was a loose CPU removed from an older build that somehow got lost in a move.......

I wonder if Q8400 can hold GTX 1070...
