Low GPU clocks in Overwatch

So I just noticed a strange issue in Overwatch. In all my other games my 960m runs at its full speed of 1202MHz. In Overwatch though it runs at a constant 540MHz. Oddly, performance doesn't seem to be effected by the lower clock speed as I am able to get a constant 60fps at 1080p, high settings. Why would my GPU not be running at full speed in Overwatch? Any tricks to get it to run at full speed and maybe get up to Ultra settings or higher?

You might have on the V-Sync in Overwatch. It will go up to your monitor accepted Hz which I assume is 60Hz and that will not use much GPU power to generate.

I use VSync on most of my games to prevent screen tearing. I'm confused as to why it is only running my GPU at 540MHz regardless of what I do.

Hmmm. If you are not getting the full 60fps in overwatch then that is weird. At 1st I thought because overwatch doesn't uses your GPU too much and thus the low MHz but if you are still not getting 60fps on it, then that should not be the case. Maybe you can take a look in the settings or maybe even reinstall overwatch just to see if it makes any different. I don't play overwatch so not really sure what's wrong with it. Sorry.

What's CPU usage and GPU usage like?

CPU hovers between 10 and 50% depending on what is going on. On Epic settings the gpu is at 95-99% but again at less than half the max clock speed (540MHz vs 1202MHz). In every other game I own my gpu runs at the full 1202MHz.

System is a 6700HQ with a 960m. No thermal issue as both run under 78C.

Is the laptop plugged in?

 

Also try setting windows power plan to high performance.
