I have decided to take the leap from console to PC. Over the last few months I have been watching videos and reading forums and I think that I'm finally ready to build my first ever PC.

This computer will be primarily for gaming but I plan to do some light CAD (autodesk inventor) in the future. My max budget is $1400 before any mail-in rebates and if at all possible, I would like to stay around $1300.

If you guys have any changes, which I'm sure you will, please try to keep it in my white and blue color scheme!

I will be playing on a single 23" Asus 1080p monitor.

*the sapphire 290 is a placeholder. I am going to wait until the non-reference 290s are out. Hopefully that will be soon  :)

It's pretty good, I would get Noctua Nf-f12's to replace the stock fans on the h100i as they are really loud. Very good for the money. Congrats on joining the pc master race!

He already said he will wait for a non-reference card.

With the Nzxt Phantom 530 case I would suggest an H80i instead of the H100i. This would allow you to keep the top fan. The H80i would mount in the rear fan position. A better psu would be a Seasonic SSR-650RM, 80+ Gold. It should be more than sufficient to power the system, including any non-reference 290.

Nice build.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I agree. I would personally use a 780 or 780TI but for his use and budget you can't beat a non reference 290.

Thanks for the input. I'm not really sure what I am going to do for the cooler. I like the performance of the h100i but i completely agree with you about how it would be nice to have that fan at the top. As far as the PSU, I know it's not the best haha. I only picked it because it was white and fully modular. The SeaSonic you listed looks great, I only wish that it was fully modular. I'm sure I'll find a better PSU by the time I buy all of my stuff.

You might as well plan later when aftermarket 290's are out. Parts and prices change frequently.

Oh man this one is going to be pretty nice, post pics of after

may I suggest you save a little money on the motherboard and get an ASUS M5A99FX?

you don't have to if you don't want to, everything looks good anyways.

Don't forget about a cd drive too (although you won't use it that much these days)

I wish I could get a 780ti! That $700 price tag is just a little bit too steep for me  ^_^

Well, I managed to make up 2 builds other than your already amazing choice!  I managed to SQUEEZE in a 780ti, however it comes about $50 past your budget, so if your able to find these parts for sale on Cyber Monday or something that would be best!  NOTE: Remove the SSD and the Cooler and trim down certain things if you like the build but not the price.  I'm also all about looks.  I'm crazy on looks! :D Also the build you choose is great! no problems with it!

Build 1: (kept this build a nice blue and black theme)

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor

Cooler: Enermax ETS-T40-TA 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

SSD: A-Data Premier Pro SP600 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Video Card

Case: Corsair Air 540 ATX Desktop Case

PSU: Corsair Professional 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Build 2: (cheaper, red and black theme.  Using AMD parts with an Nvidia card)

 CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor

Cooler: Cooler Master V8 GTS 82.0 CFM CPU Cooler

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard

RAM: AMD 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Video Card

Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU: Silverstone Strider 600W 80+ Silver Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

DVDRW: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

NOTE: The OS will run you back about 100 bucks.

That Asus looks great for the money but I love the look of the Gigabyte! Also, pics will come soon after. I plan on picking up some paracord and white leds to make this thing look great!

A 780Ti? I didn't even think that it was possible with my price. I'll keep a look out on black friday and cyber monday but I really don't want to spend a penny more! This build started out as a $600 budget build and it has kept growing ever since. I have to set a limit somewhere haha. Also I already have a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate  ;)

Its possible.  And about the 2 builds AMD is a great option, although out of all unbiasedness I've had problems with the older AMD processors, not the new ones. haven't used the new ones just wanted to chuck that out there.  Also I recommend getting something that looks amazing.  So you can look through the case window with pride knowing you've done an amazing job.  Also, if you are nervous about thermal paste and putting on the CPU cooler, if you get a CPU that comes with a stock cooler I don't know about AMD but I know Intel stock/box coolers have thermal paste pre-applied and the stock coolers are the most easiest things to put it.  The intel one is just pushing down a few knobs.   If you don't want to overclock you can save some money by going with an un-overclock capable motherboard and CPU.  And the stock cooler does fine without an overclock.  However if possible I recommend getting a 3rd party cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO just to keep things a bit more cool and to keep things out of throttling and over heating.  Since for me 70 and or above is my limit.  Also keep in mind that if you want a really quiet PC you can use Noctua fans for everything to keep everything quiet.  I also recommend not overclocking if you want things quiet.  Because it will allow you to turn all the fans down and undervolt the fans to save on power and keep your PC silent. If you need any help or advice don't hesitate to ask.
