Overclocking Xeon E5-2609 v3

Can I overclock my Xeon? (its a retail cpu, not es and I know you "can't" overclock xeons) I just want to know if it has a locked voltage or what.

My motherboard is a ASRock X99 Extreme3.

Do you already have the parts? Why not just try it? Seems like the Xeon will load up fine probably with a bios update or maybe out of the box, but I can't really find anything about overclocking the xeon on that mobo online. It will probably have a locked multiplier but you will still be able to oc it with the BCLK method.

You just go into the UEFI/BIOS and look for something most likely called BCLK frequency in oc settings or whatever it is. Turn it off from auto which seems to be the default on your board and just keep raising it slowly and test the system for stability with aida64 etc just like you would for oc with cpu ratio. Keep in mind though that the bclk messes with other stuff on the board like memory speed, cache speed, and more. Good luck.

1? No, it should be starting more near 100. I can't afford any x99 components, so I'm speaking from a generally superficial understanding of how you might overclock on x99 based on other people's results. I would suggest that you watch some yt videos about x99 overclocking with a xeon and see what you can find.

Ok, thats good, thanks for your help! Also, I thought I could never afford X99 gear but I got my CPU and motherboard for $75 USD!

I got my Xeon up by 7.5% (100MHz - 107.5MHz), but anything more and it won't work. You could probably go further by mucking with timings and such but that's beyond me.
