The AMD FX-8350 was and may still be a good CPU but I don't know how well it would work with a GTX 1080TI or any other Graphics card of NVIDIAs' 10th series or the newer AMD cards, but the basic question in the sences is, would the FX-8350 (with max RAM) work with the 1080 TI? (side note the motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 HDMI Motherboard)

The FX-8350 will "work" with a 1080Ti but it would bottleneck the card.

thank you for answering, would it be a large bottleneck or a small bottleneck? (sorry I only just started pc stuff and hardware).

Quite a large one.  (It's fine! We all started out not knowing much)

pretty big. With a 1080ti about half the frame rate in some games.

The amd fx chips were never that great. They run hot, had okay archeture that was newer used well, not updated.

i wouldn't pair anything higher than a GTX 1060 with a AMD FX CPU since it has very low IPC compared to today's market offerings like Intel's 7th gen chips or AMD Ryzen lineup. If you have a current FX system, then I would recommend you either pair it with a lower tier GPU like a 1050ti or 1060, or alternatively you could sell the FX system and build a new system on either Ryzen or Kaby Lake.

Fx 8350 would bottleneck like crazy.

I would recommend a 6700k (you can pick em up for $300 sometimes)+$100 mobo+$100 16gb ram kit.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
