Hello.

I got a R5 1600 and I'm using it with the stock cooler and an ASUS Prime X370-Pro motherboard. (I got this board when it was on sale :D) I don't want to push this CPU to its limits but I tried to add additional 100MHz without using a manual voltage. I'm at 3.6GHz at the moment with auto and it seems stable under load. I thought that using a manual voltage would be necessary for 3.6GHz but appariently I'm wrong. Now my question. Is using a manual voltage better then using auto? And how far can I push this CPU with its stock cooler?

No idea (yet) how far you can push it, since it depends on luck and the chip itself. Make sure to let me know where you get with it and at what voltage so I have a reference when my 1600 gets here

Auto overvolts your CPU by so much to keep it stable. You could drop a lot of voltage going from auto to manual on the same frequency.

Main:  1650 v2   @ 4,6GHz   -   X79 Deluxe                -   GTX 1080 @ 2000MHz   -   24GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz / CL10

Side:   i7-4790K @ 4,5GHz   -   Maximus 7 Hero        -   GTX 1070 @ 2114MHz    -  16GB DDR3 @ 2666MHz / CL12

I remember someone (I think it was Jay) saying AMD doesn't recommend anything over 1.4 or 1.45V (and 1.375V max for daily use). Some people are reporting 3.85@1.37, others are getting to the magical 4GHzx stable at 1.45

 

Personally I'm hoping to get 4GHz stable on mine, but that'll be mostly out of my hand because silicon lottery. Waiting for my card is killing me (piece of junk expired and nobody poked me to go change it sooner) and then I have to wait for the distributor to get the order to the retailer. These are gonna be the longest couple weeks in my nerd life ._.
