I am going to go out on a limb and say the ones they did not allow pre order are not ready for consumer retail.

Yup.  I know a couple guys that wanted one and ended ordering the X299 Deluxe.  I ordered a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7.  First time straying from Asus in a while.

That's why there is Ryzen in the market, the prices for Intel HEDT especially at launch will be lots of "LUL"

What processor are you getting again? are you absolutely sure you need the very expensive x299 you're thinking about? i think I recall your older posts.

Not more than the CPU most buyers are putting on it.  It is all about perspective.

I don't think that it makes much sense getting that processor because nowadays getting an used 5820k on x99 is relatively cheaper and will be still excellent while a ryzen 1700 build will also cost less and outperform it in a great deal of scenarios especially with good RAM.

If not enough the next mainstream line up coming soon, Coffee Lake, will have better IPC, better overclockability, better prices, and also feature 6c/12t... Just throwing my 2 cents here [:

That's Canon Lake (10nm processors), Coffee Lake(still 14nm) is coming in like 3 months.

No because x299 is HEDT not mainstream.

Well I mean you can by all means, it just is a very bad deal for your money considering all the other available options but if that's what you want go for it, life is meant to be lived happily [:
