These are my current (relevant) specs :

  • Asus Sabertooth Z77
  • i7 3770k @ 4.5Ghz
  • 16GB (4x4) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
  • EVGA 1070 FTW @  2067Mhz
  • Acer Predator XB271HU (2560x1440, 165Hz, G-sync)

I initially bought the 1070 for 1440p/60Hz. I got my 165Hz monitor this week and I love it, but the best performance I tend to get is 90-100fps. I'm saving up money for further improvements so I can get the most out of my monitor. I've become a bit of a graphics whore, while ultra isn't necessary, I don't like going lower than high settings.

At first I thought of selling my 1070 and getting a 1080 ti. I'm hoping the mining craze extends to my country and people willing to down crazy amounts of money on a second hand card. But I'm worried that while the 1080 ti is capable of pushing games that far, then the 3770k will become a bottleneck. So I'm also looking to upgrade my CPU to either a Ryzen refresh (if the refresh allows faster clocks) or a Coffee Lake CPU. But by the time I have saved enough money for all of them, Volta will probably release. Then again, if I upgrade my CPU before the GPU I won't get that much gains, because all my games right now are GPU limited anyway.

I regularly place price alerts on local websites to get good deals, so there's a good chance I might get say DDR4 memory months before a new motherboard and CPU. So I like to plan my upgrade path ahead of time.

Anyone have any advice for me? Thanks in advance.

i7 7700k or equivalent amd cpu and two 1080ti's or what ever amd has to match or beat them. Unless you play old games and not the new triple A games

Edit: NVM read it wrong thought you got a ultra wide 1440p monitor. Most games would be fine with a single 1080ti however in the newest games it sometimes cant break the 80's with max settings.

CPU: 6700K Case: Corsair Air 740 CPU Cooler: H110i GTX Storage: 2x250gb SSD 960gb SSD PSU: Corsair 1200watt GPU: EVGA 1080ti FTW3 RAM: 16gb DDR4

Other Stuffs: Red sleeved cables, White LED lighting 2 noctua fans on cpu cooler and Be Quiet PWM fans on case.

Those who are into mining, know that AMD are much better at it than Nvidia, so you might be out of luck there.

If you gave a place to buy from that are great with returns, you can first buy another 1070, and test SLI, and if it will be enought for the games you like to play. Which would be the cheapest solution (Except for turning down the settings), and if it's not enough, then get a 1080ti and test with it.

Sorry for the few off Capital letters in my posts, it does it on its own when I Write in English, since my OS is in another Language. It's annoying.

As far as I understand, due to miners already buying up so many RX cards, people are now turning to the 1070 instead.
