So I'm planning on selling my r9 390 to upgrade and I can get an evga FTW ACX 2.0 GTX 980ti used for 340 (including tax) at microcenter, which doesn't include the 35 dollar rebate (which takes a year tho lol) and includes manufactureres warranty. Or I can get a strix GTX 1070 for 360 on Craigslist, no warranty more expensive (including or not including rebate) etc. So what would you guys think?

I'm just worried Nvidia will make the 980ti lose performance like rumors suggest they do (I'm not on any side of the argument, I really don't know)

what games do you plan running, it has shown in benchmarks that both cards outperform eachother in certain games

I play alot of different games, so I'll look up some benchmarks but if they win/lose evenly it's fine to me.

They may not optimize for it, but they won't cripple its performance.....

bassically from what i have seen they are a win/win equally in most to all games, the 1070 would be more future proof with driver support id say

Would that be enough to get the 1070 instead?

Strix is actually a very excellent card, check carefully for any defects

Never bought anything from microcenter so double check that. Buying from a reputable store feels nice

GTX 1070 and 980Ti performs similar

id say at this point yes, it will consume less power, have better drivers that would be better supported in the future, but tbh 1070 prices are drastically rising because of miners and amd not having many competing cards, i wouold keep the card i have now and save that extra 100$ or so and get a 1080, or wait untill a new card comes out and prices would drop significantly. What card are you running now?

I'd say a 1070, but you'd better buy it fast so before its price rises. 980ti is not bad, but it is an older product.

Microcenter is a very reputable store. It's only in store but they normally have really good cpu and mobo deals, if you live in the us check if you have one near you.

So you think I should go for the 980ti for the cheaper price and warranty?

It's because some Nvidia sponsored games use new effects (or "better effects")that their older generation cards do not do so well in. And combined with Nvidia refusing to optimise for older architectures makes people think they are "gimping" it.

It's already above my budget lol, the only one is one on Craigslist for 360 unless I wanna drive 1-2 hours to get one for 300-320

If the 1070 is perfect I'd get that. $20 delta for a RGB card, good cooling and noise level is worth it imo

Ok ilseems like the obvious choice but I just worry about warranty... And I'll have to wait a little longer for a ryzen upgrade.

It is tough... If the owner of the 1070 had the original receipt then I'd go with him but I like to be on the safe side.

Oh it's sold. RIP. I may go with 980ti as that's what I did with my 390 (bought it last September for cheaper than 480) although amd is better about improving drivers for older cards right? Do people still make custom drivers?
