Get a solid X370 board and a Ryzen 7 1700. Overclock the shit out of your RAM. If it doesn't hit 3000MHz sell your current kit and buy 3000MHz+ certified RAM. 1080 vs 980Ti isn't a huge difference so I would wait for Vega so you can switch to the red team and get FreeSync.

The B350 would do just fine unless you're aiming for Crossfire

So I currently have an i5 4690k over to 4.5ghz, GTX 980ti 16gb ddr3 2133mhz. I have been really considering upgrading recently, been thinking of going to a 7700k and a GTX 1080. Just wondering what your guys input might be? I would like to get into streaming and content creation Thats why I'm looking at i7's but gaming would be major use of pc. I would be reusing my hd's (500gb Samsung 850 evo and 2 Seagate 4tb hd's) Just wondering if an upgrade would be worth it.

If you're into content creation such as streaming, I would recommend getting a Ryzen CPU. If you do so, I suggest changing your memory to a much higher frequency :) otherwise, everything's looking fine!

I've not really set one yet. I have some money so within reason budget is pretty open as long as I get a great pc.

Get a solid X370 board and a Ryzen 7 1700. Buy a new kit for 3000MHz+ and overclock the shit out of your RAM. If it doesn't hit 3000MHz sell your current kit and buy 3000MHz+ certified RAM. 1080 vs 980Ti isn't a huge difference so I would wait for Vega so you can switch to the red team and get FreeSync.

edit: oops forgot u have ddr3 like me

It's not the CPU, it's more of a motherboard situation; you would less likely to see a ddr3-compatible AM4 mobo. 2666Mhz is the baseline for the memory for Ryzen

Ryzen - change to a 1700 if you want more cores and the RAM could be better but it's a great budget option.  If you want a better mobo the aorus k5 and asrock taichi are awesome.

The B350 would do just fine unless you're aiming for Crossfire

Wouldn't be crossfiring anytime soon if ever. So long as I can overclock.

You can overclock well with B350. It doesn't make any difference unless you have an extreme condition of OCD.

Alright thanks. Guess my other question is will I notice a decent difference if I upgrade now from my 4690k? Should I upgrade coy, mobo and ram and keep the 980ti?
