Best Gps watch

I like to run. im a high school track athlete and i run on my own and with the team.

 

Currently i track my runs on my phone (one plus x) via run keeper. Recently i started borrowing my dads garmin forerunner 210 to track my runs and i can say i like it much better. While i do like having my phone on me for music, its much better to have a wrist based solution for tracking things like track sessions and my ball hockey.

 

Ive poked around and currently the best deal and option im leaning towards most is the garmin forerunner 235  for $300 cad. while it isnt perfect it is by far the best deal i have found and it would be a suitable replacement for my pebble time.

 

Is there any better deals out there on gps running watches? any extra features would be appreciated but i mainly need to track my runs, and would like to use it as a daily watch so smart notifications and features is nice

Well the best one would be the Apple Watch Series 2. Highest customer satisfaction for a smartwatch and more features than Android Wear.....but you have a One Plus so it won't work with your phone.

If that seems like it will do the job you want then get it. I dont know of many Android Wear Watches that are out there. 

im looking for more of a running watch, with run tracking being the most important part. the only real smart watch features i use on my pebble is the notifications and the garmin is good enough at that.

I like to use The Wire Cutter for at least a first guess. And from them, the best fitness tracker with a GPS built in is the Garmin Vivosmart+ (it's $170 USD)

i would argue that the garmin with its garmin connect and strava integration is a better runner dedicated watch, but the apple watch series 2 is also $250 more for the baseline option

I don't see how. The Apple Watch has some of the most accurate health sensors available. But yes it is expensive.

apple watch doesnt give you the same running metrics of a recent garmin. The gps quality will be about the same, the heart rate monitors are still wrist based so they will be evenly inaccurate, but the garmin gives you other features like vo2 max, cadence, stride length, ground contact time, vertical oscillation , race predictor, and other running specific metrics that a runner would find useful. thats what ive gathered from other runners. yes its a good smart watch, yes it can track runs, but as a running watch is much more basic.

Since you've already known about Garmin, maybe you want to check out the brand Suunto too

Does the Apple Watch require an iDevice to pair with or does it work with any mobile device? That's important, because OP has an Android phone and I'm pretty sure they're not willing to shell out another few hundred USD for an iDevice.

 

Even if the Watch can be used by itself, it's kind of pointless because dumping stats to somewhere is kind of important.

OP has an Android phone. Apple Watches are out of the question unless OP wants to spend more money.

I believe I said that, or something along those lines when I initially suggested the Apple Watch Series 2.

I have had good luck with TomTom and Garmin. TomTom is a little bit cheaper but very durable. Garmin is closer to an apple watch but GPS is consistent and the battery doesn't seem to run out

Maybe getting a watch with a heart rate monitor might be worth it. Some coaches use heart rate as measuring workouts.
