Basically, I've been asked by a family member to spec up a system for him to replace his ancient Athlon II X4 630 from 2009. He intends on gaming at 1080p on a 144Hz monitor, this lead me to question whether the 1060 or 1070 would be more useful to him. As I don't run 1080p myself I'm not too clued up on the whole thing or what card is best for which resolution/refresh rate.

Any help would be appreciated.

GTX 1070 is the sweet spot for QHD (1440p) and a monster for 1080p, so if you want to truly maximize the performance in the monitor go for GTX 1070
