Hey, one more question your power supply in the second build does it have black cables or the ketchup mustard ones.

the CX series from corsair (the grey label ones) come with all black semi mondular cables. check out the 4th image on this page to see what they look like: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3hkwrH/corsair-power-supply-cp9020102na

Hi guys, so I am building my first PC and here is the build itself if you want to look it up:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9fgB6X

I just need to pick a GPU and my biggest reason why I am writing this post is the internet card. I use Wi-fi in my home and I don't know do I need to buy an internet card so I can use my internet at home wireless. I need some help with that and some recommendations. Thank you in advance.

Good build, but you will need to buy a separate wireless card to use Wi-Fi.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

What is the total budget for this build and what are you going to use it for? It looks like you're going for a black/red theme so you got that squared away... I'm not sure I would suggest that motherboard as it is missing USB C and good audio support, features which are present on other similarly priced motherboards.

Price of the build is about 900$ although I need to squeeze a monitor and a keyboard for about 1050$.

okay. and as far as aesthetics go... is there any reason you're going for the white/red case rather than the black/red to match the rest of your black/red components? would you like some additional white in your build as well?

That is one nice build but I want the Corsair spec alpha and my own biggest problem with 1060 that it looks kinda stupid when it's small that's why I would prefer a 580 although I know they are out of stock.

there's the ASUS dual if you want that, combine with some black/white/red RAM and white mobo (tomahawk arctic)

idk

Why a pci wifi adapter? Better to just get a good usb one...

because unlike USB adapters, this has a Intel chipset - and a very good, reliable one at that - it's the Intel 7260 that's been around since the Haswell days.

plus, external antenna. meaning you don't have to get shafted with the USB adapter being in a shitty position

idk

Intel chipset that doesn't support injection.

And both of the usb ones I suggest have external antennas... and you can use a long usb cable to position them wherever you want lol.

you mean apart from all the really good reasons to get an internal one instead? (doesn't block a USB port, typically better signal strength, often a cleaner look, more reliable connection, and so on). USB wifi is great for what it is, and is often easier to use (most are plug and play) but if you have the option between USB wifi and PCIe wifi... PCIe wifi every time IMO. I own a wireless USB from TPlink... its actually pretty good, so I'm not saying they are bad or anything... I'm saying if you have the choice, make the better choice ;)

you don't need injection for a gaming system, lmfao

that's probably the only place where USB WiFi cards are actually useful.

the alfa adapter isn't compatible with win10 and has beta drivers for 8 apparently (nha)

idk

$1050 on your black/red aesthetic isn't really doable it seems (unless you really cheap out on monitor/keyboard). Here is one for $1050 with a 75hz freesync monitor, but no keyboard or wireless... pretty much your exact build (it was pretty good) but with an extra 10 bucks thrown at the RAM and a couple more at the motherboard for good performance and quality of life improvements.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nBXM7h

You could bring that cost down a bit by switching to something like a strix RX 580 8GB which is cheaper and still colour neutral with RGB to help with aesthetics... buut if you don't want to give up on your gaming X (which isn't a bad thing) you may have to stretch your budget to around $1100 to finish out the build.

1In my experience, high quality usb adapters tend to have significantly better signal strength than internal ones.

And it isn't like there is a thing you can buy for $5 to turn a PCI slot into four more usb ports.

2Depends on the types of games you play ... CTF anyone ;)

3Or anywhere else you need one, cause you know, you can unplug it and plug it into another computer ;)

4is compatible with win10. Plug and play. Works great.

that is about the only advantage they have... that and they tend to be a tad cheaper. Not that its a bad advantage to have mind you, if you're the kind of guy with several devices or just likes the flexibility of a USB wifi then by all means.... but internal ones just perform better, its why they exist at all. if they weren't better, there would be no reason for them to exist. certainly a really high end USB wifi would beat a budget PCIe wifi... but all things being equal, PCIe wifi is the way to go for performance.

Internal ones don't perform better. Which is in your own words, the only reason they should exist. Which is why I am saying they are dumb.

Show me one actual *academic or semi-rigorous or lab test or whatever \guy in mom's basement with some quasilegit measuring equipment\ anything beyond 'social proof'* showing any performance advantage between price comparable internal vs external wifi cards lol
