HI within the past mouth I have build a gaming PC. I have spent about 2,600 Dollars on my PC. I live on a farm witch mean that were have power line on poles outside the ground. So I thought I should buy a good surge protector to keep myself said from lighting. I went on Newegg were I buy everything that is PC related and looked. I saw there was something called joules? Since I have a higher risk on haveing lighting strike I guest I should get a surge protector with a large amount of joules. So are there are surge protector that you would recommend? Would one of these be good? Compare surge protector on Newegg link

Get the CyberPower one.  It's for home theaters which means it is better equipped for higher wattage equipment.

Who told you that

I would get an UPS. They're a little bit more but it's saved my ass at least 20 times now in games with that built in battery.

APC or Cyberpower make goes ones.

I would also get a UPS and the brands are also good (my network is using a cyberpower UPS)

Im mostly on discord now and you can find me on my profile

Can't exactly give an expert opinion, but this is what I use. Can be used as a surge protector with the addition of keeping your system on long enough to properly shut it down in case of total power outage.

No one did, I saw it for my own eyes. The BELKIN can only handle 4320 Joules and the CyberPower one can handle 4350. It also has more features that help with power management and handling surges of power, as well as just nice-to-haves.  Read em for yourself.

It really depends on how well secured the power lines are, how many 11KV lightening arresters are on the system near you? With above ground power transmission lines it is indeed not a good idea to not have any protection. Joules is the measure of energy, it's a metric measure and a watt is one joule per second, so a 1200 watt power supply unit at 100% (assuming 100% efficiency) would use 1200 joules per second. Any of those surge protectors would be fine, as they use metal oxide varisters to clamp the voltage above that of mains depending on where you live, but many won't take kindly to lighting, they'll stop the surge but probably blow a breaker or a fuse, or even sacrifice themselves, they also have a limited life, so change them every few years as good measure,

Yours faithfully

I only have experience with rack mounted units, I don't personally know that brand at all, but the rating looks fairly high, I would assume it's a reasonable unit, but maybe wait for someone to confirm or refute that,

edit: Reading the newegg reviews show this unit isn't without it's faults but seems to do what it's meant it, however it is a modified sine wave, personally I have always bought pure sine way inverters and UPS.

Yours faithfully
