Hi guys!!

Do you guys have any idea on why my Ryzen 5 1600X is idling at 60-65 degrees? It goes above 70 degrees on simple usage like watching videos.

Is it because of the 20 degree offset or is it something else?

PS- I am using a Kraken X62 and crosshair vi hero. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version.

Thanks!!

Try monitoring through the Ryzen Master utility. I think it will show actual temps to cross-check. But yes, I think that's the silly offset due to XFR-enabled CPUs.

It's the +20 and AMD is forcing you to use their Ryzen Master Suite but reseat the cooler to see if it's fine

Im mostly on discord now and you can find me on my profile

Even if it is the offset, that temp is too high for that cooler IMO, what's your frequency and vcore?

I reseated the cooler and now the temperature stays between 35-40 degrees while idling, as shown in the Ryzen Master Utility.

Is there any way to bypass this 20 degree offset?

Run a synthetic stress test and see what the results are. Because a lot of temp monitoring programs are wonky at idle. As for the offset, just keep it in mind while you read your temps

I haven't yet overclocked it. It is still running in the stock frequency.

That still seems a little high to me, where are you? and what is your ambient temperature where you have the PC?

Keeping the ambient temperatures in mind, I think its fine. It's pretty hot in here. The ambient temp is around 29-30 degree C.

What do you think?

I ran Cinebench and the temps maxed out at 55 degrees at stock frequency.

Yeah, that'd be fine then for that ambient temp IMO. It's around 22C here at the moment, so if it was that temp I would say it's high for sure.... yours is good enough.

Seems OK, but cinebench doesn't stress the CPU for long enough, run an AIDA64 stress test, or encode/recode a large video file, that should stress it enough to get a reading of the temps when doing a big-ish workload.

Remember that AIDA64 is a torture test for a CPU and will make it reach temps that (almost) no real workload will though.

Yeah, I'm not wanting to test for a normal workload, we want to test for max temps, plus IMO there's not much differennce between running AIDA64 and a video encode/recode as far as tests go.

I ran AIDA64 for 2 hours and the temps were stable at 56-57.5(in ryzen master) and  74.5-75 in AIDA64, at 3.7Ghz

Yeah, that's great for temps, and about what I was expecting... it was the high idle temp that was throwing me. That is well within normal, and in fact is pushing into the "majorly good" temp region :D
