I have two builds, one Intel and one AMD for mid range gaming (hopefully going to get Star Wars Battlefront 2 down the line). Could you guys compare the two and try to get them to equal performance? (preferably upgrade the Intel build, not downgrade the AMD)

OP asked for a fair comparison, a 1600 goes head on with a 5820k or 6800k.

He stated he would be gaming though. A 5820k/6800k will perform worse in games than a Skylake/Kaby Lake i5/i7, for the most part. An X99 CPU would also be a huge waste of money for a "mid range gaming" system.

i5 should perform slightly better in games for the most part, but it's a very small difference and I'd go with the R5 over the i5, for sure. I'd also recommend trying to get an RX 480/580 if you can find one, over the GTX 1060 but AMD GPUs are ridiculously hard to find right now.

Heres a redo of the AMD build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/NovaMan/saved/4j47P6

And is a VRAM drop 8GB of 6GB really too much?

what r u talking about..the ryzen 5 1600 outperforms the i5 7600(non-k) as is in almost everything, plus with the ryzen 1600 you always have an option of OC.

So no..picking up a ryzen 1600 is almost always a better choice.

Yup, not the point though.

gladly..

want another?

here-

another?

that whole i5 is faster was when ryzen was fairly new...as of right now after all the updates..the performance of ryzen is actually better now, plus it's cheaper, it's performance increase is actually visible when using a fast ram. So yeah..i'll say that again..I would pick a 1600 over a i5 7600 any day.

Nice ridiculously obscure YouTube channels lmfao.

There you go, i5-6600k at same clock speed as R5 1600x performs slightly better for the most part in games. Which is expected since Skylake IPC is better than Ryzen, and Kaby Lake is even slightly better than that. i5-7500 vs R5 1600 at stock speeds, i5-7500 will be slightly better, for the most part. Again though, as I said, I recommend Ryzen anyway since AGAIN, as I said, the difference is negligible for the most part. As for RAM speed, Intel benefits from faster RAM as well, it's just not quite as necessary as it is with Ryzen.

As for pricing, as you can blatantly see from my two parts list, everything exactly the same apart from mobo and CPU, the Intel option is a little over $15 cheaper. Sure, the i5-7600 is more expensive, but the 7600 is not worth the price premium over the 7500 anyway.

that review came out on exactly the day ryzen 5 released April 11, like I said the gaming performance has really increased like you can see in all those videos
