Hey asking for a friend

He just got given a pc and is wondering what the best upgrade would be at the moment.

The main uses will be Gaming(not fussed about max settings but would like to play new games) and Digital art(Photoshop with wacom tablet)

generic 1080p Monitor(if anyone knows a good color correct monitor for digital art would be appreciated too)

the current pc is:

i7-2600

8gb ram

(hard drive doesn't matter atm the one is okay)

P67A-UD3-B3

GTX 560 ti(not sure what power supply at the moment as haven't been over to see it yet but runs a 560 ti)

Doesn't have the most disposable income so probably around $100-300NZD per fortnight

Lives in NZ

Cheers all

Oooh fortnight. Fancy language I see.

Anyways, his current CPU should be able to keep up for at least another year so there isn't a need to upgrade that.

He might want to look at increasing his RAM to at least ~12GB, though it's rather low priority as 8GB still works perfectly fine.

For GPU, I recommend getting a 1060 6GB. Not sure how much that costs, but it should be good for 1080p for the next few years.

Seems like 1060 uses ~270W, which is around the wattage that the 560ti uses so the PSU should be good.

Also, if your friend doesn't have an SSD I recommend getting one and shoving his OS onto it. It literally changes the whole PC experience.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

To be fair, the 2600 still holds up pretty well in modern games. I'd change out the GPU to a 1060 6GB, RX480 or RX580.

8GB ram i'd say is just about the minimum now, so I don't think that needs upgrading, I think the money is far better spent on a GPU especially given how expensive RAM is right now.

Ensure it's not some dodgy Thermaltake or weirdly branded PSU though.
