macOS GPU Support

So with macOS now supporting external GPUs, how does that work in terms of driver support? Would you only be able to use select few GPUs or would you be able to use any GPU?

Theoretically, the eGPU enclosure itself doesn't need additional drivers, if you use an Apple approved one. After that, it comes down to whether Apple offficially supports it, and if the manufacturer releases drivers for it.

GTX 10, and Radeon Pro/WX should be 100% good to go. It's likely that RX will also work.

 

Beyond that, you might need alternative drivers for models not officially supported.

Apple, no. Nvidia's Pascal's on OSX, yes.

Idk if Apple does but nvidia has drivers for a while.
