it works in any usb port, but won't show up in my computer to access the hdd and a windows sign pops up and says "device not recognised" and its because it can't automatically dl the driver as usual, was just wondering if anyone had a way around this aha

Ahh I see, sorry, I was thinking along the lines that some USB ports use a different controller, so thought it was worth a shot.

Is it USB 2.0 or 3.0? just asking because I used to have a USB 2.0 one that was crap, never worked properly, which is why I bought the USB 3.0 one I have now abiut 8 years ago. Still going strong luckily, and they don't make these anymore, so dreading when this one finally packs in, hopefully won't be soon :D

Good luck with your problem, sorry I couldn't be of help to you.
