Hello! Two days ago the "Windows Search" service stopped and since then I can not start it no matter what I do. I tried "sfc /scannow", deleted files in "ProgramData\Microsoft\Search". Please help me to resolve this stupid issue.

IMO windows search sucks, so I disabled the stupid indexing service. Purposely put a text doc label 123abc into a folder with the rest of my documents. Did a search on that file and windows search can't find it even thought I'm like literally looking right at it.

Hi @Nedrozak

Which version of windows do you have installed? If you aren't sure type "winver" in the search without the brackets.

Check event viewer under Windows Logs>Application and look for any even that has the word "Search" as the source. Take a screenshot and attach it. Or paste the content.

Cheers!

hey @Nedrozak

I've seen this before with Win10.

Try this solution from MS:

Quote

To resolve this issue, delete all files with .BLF and .REGTRANS-MS extension in the following directory:

C:\windows\system32\config\TxR

Note: The files in the folder location above are hidden and will thus not be visible unless you set the system to not Hide Protected Operating System Files under Tools - Folder Options.

Once these files are deleted, reboot the machine. Once rebooted, observe that the Windows Search service has already started and is in process of rebuilding the Index.

Note: You may observe High CPU while the Search Index is being rebuilt.
