Not sure if this belongs here, but here I go.

I recently purchased a MSI z87-GD65 Gaming motherboard. After connecting everything and booting up, I noticed the case speaker didn't beep. Is there just a problem with these boards not working with the case speaker or what because a friend of mine has the same board, and has the same problem. Not sure if we have the speaker installed wrong or if it was the board. Any help would be appreciated.

You might have plugged it in wrong. Turn it 180 degrees and try again. But if it boots and works, i don't see the problem. :)

Tried this multiple times, still nothing. I found it weird that where you plug in the speaker there are 4 pins, but only 2 pins on the speaker. O.o is there a 4 pin speaker I don't know about?

Try this. I have marked the pins with yellow. Remember to put + and - correct.

Unless there is a pin missing on the motherboard (in that header), the speaker, which is connected to it should work fine. Did the speaker work in the past (concidering that the case is used in an older build, if it new then it is not applicable)?

It was connected correct.

And yes I tried it in another mobo just to make sure it worked, and it worked in the other mobo. I honestly think the gd65s speaker header just doesn't work because like i said me and a friend both have the motherboard and neither of our speakers work in it.

  • 7 months later...

I recently connected a case speaker to my Z87-GD65 and after rebooting heard absolutely nothing.  I tested the speaker and double checked the connection - all was okay.  So I called MSI tech support.  The support rep stated that some motherboards will only beep if there is a problem.  Apparently the Z87-GD65 is one of those that does not beep if everything is okay.  Kind of odd since other motherboards usually provide a single beep if everything is working just prior to booting into the os.  It is too bad that there is no consistency from one manufacturer to another or one board series to another.   As long as the board continues to function properly I am very pleased with it - speaker beeping or not.
