So I just learned about raid 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10. Ultimately, I want the speed gain of RAID 0, but I only got 2 Hard Drives. So my question is, is there a raid that is the same thing as RAID 0 but instead of cutting all the data in half (and putting each half on the other drive), can you put all of the data on BOTH drives, then just read the determined "halfs", gaining the speed bonus but also the reliability of RAID 1 in the event of a drive failure. If this type of RAID doesn't exist, why not? It seems like a perfectly viable prospect.

You played 2 hours to die like this?

You're only option with two drives is RAID0 or RAID1. Every other RAID level requires at least three drives.

If you want reliability, RAID1 is your only option here. You can get a read performance boost though, but not a write one. And your storage is cut in half.

You want the performance of RAID 0, but redundancy of RAID 1...that's why RAID 1+0 (AKA RAID 10) exists.

You need a minimum of four HDD's though.

There is no two HDD RAID 1+0 because you take a huge hit in reliability...

RAID 2,3, and 4 isn't usually mentioned because it is either bit or byte level striping...which is a bit more complicated.

OR...if you want the reliability, endurance, and the performance, you get SSD's.
