i5 7600k & B150A compatible?

Is the msi b150a compatible with the i5 7600k?

 

If not, what motherboard would you recommend - on a tight budget

do you have the 7600k? i would recommend going for ryzen, yes update bios.

Will need a BIOS update requiring a Skylake CPU, I suppose you dont have one of them lying around. B250 (Or H270) is out of the box, would recommend R5 if you dont already have the i5.

Only working with the latest Bios on the board. Else it won't because the board doesn't support the cpu.

 

Else when going for a K CPU you usually want a Z Motherboard due to overclocking features of the K CPU. Else you don't need a K CPU.

I'm not aware of any benefits the r5s have over the i5s

It's compatible but a) you may need a BIOS update b) you lose the ability to overclock if you pair a K-series CPU on a non Z-series mobo and c) if you don't have the CPU already, you should be going for the R5 1600.

R5 has better minimums, 1% lows and would crush it in anything multi threaded.

Because it's a 6C/12T CPU as opposed to the i5-7600K which only has 4C/4T. You get similar average FPS in comparison to the i5-7600K but significantly better frametimes/0.1 & 1% minimum framerates, resulting in much more fluid and smoother gameplay. And yeah, it's not hard to see why a 6C/12T CPU will demolish a 4C/4T one in anything highly multithreaded. Plus, think about the cost. You need a somewhat expensive Z-series motherboard and a halfway decent aftermarket cooler to overclock that i5-7600K. With the R5 1600, just get a B350 motherboard and the stock cooler should give you a nice overclock.

 

There's only so far a CPU with four cores and four threads will go. There are already situations where the i5-7600K will choke a powerful graphics card because of its core and thread count.
