I'm going to be a computer science major in the fall so I need a quad core and 16gb+ of ram, but I also need something that is light and portable for classes and such. I don't really want to go over 14.5 inch laptops because of backpacks and portability.

Thanks for your help!

Okay, maybe something a little bit newer ;)

What is wrong with this? It has perfectly fast hardware (in fact this processor is about equal with the 7700hq) and it features nearly everything you could want out of a professional level laptop, such as 16gb ram, ssd, simple but not high power consumption gpu.

It's a great deal though!

It is a good deal, especially for the price.

That is why I'm suggesting it, most quad core 14" laptops will end up featuring overkill dedicated graphics for your purpose, and nearly all quad core 13" laptops throttle like hell and cost too much.

You can find old dell and lenovo machines at that price and config all the time.

T470p, T460p are all good 14in quad cores. They reguarly go for around 1000 a pop. Spend another 200 upgrading ram and drives and it's a sick machine.

Dell E5470 is one of the best ones and the new 5480 is also great.

I do NOT like the HP Elitebook offerings compared to those. So no.
