Thanks

you can't get much better than that, id stick with your current chip.

Where is your current cpu slow?

in DCS, Squad, and Arma i keep getting 100% CPU usage with little FPS (i do have a GTX 460) and its really bugging me out since those are my mostly played games

The 3770 isn't that outdated yet. My 4460 is quite a bit slower since it doesn't have hyper threading, but it didn't slow my games down most of the time.

Your GPU needs a big upgrade though, not just to an RX 550, but maybe a 570.

The 460 is a massively outdated card. Your processor is fine for now. Buy a 1070 and you shall be happy with the results. Also, with the 100% usage, what do you have open when playing games?

  • NVIDIA GTX 960 2GB DDR5
  • Corsair SPEC-03 Blue LED Gaming PC Case

I guess you turned off some of your cores or lowered the frequency of the CPU. No way can an 3770 bottleneck a GTX 460 unless it's damaged. Not even my slower 4460 bottlenecked my RX 470, which is faster than the GTX 460 even by comparing the number

I guess you turned off some of your cores or lowered the frequency of the CPU. No way can an 3770 bottleneck a GTX 460 unless it's damaged. Not even my slower 4460 bottlenecked my RX 470, which is faster than the GTX 460 even by comparing the number

Ever core is on and the frequency is at 3.4Ghz and hyper threading is on

Just gonna leave this here for you. No point in shooting yourself in the foot with a weaker GPU, especially if you have an i7.

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

Get a mini GTX 1070. The 460 is from 2011. It needs to be upgraded for better performance.

Also just cause a CPU is at 100% utlization does not mean its causing a bottleneck necessarily.

Hello homo sapiens, i was thinking of retiring my i7 3770 and upgrade to something better, i mostly play DCS, LoL, Arma 3, Rust, Squad, P3D, and DiRT 3, i have a budget of 350US$ if you think of me getting Ryzen please include a motherboard and check if my specs are compatible (in the signature)

Thanks

I play alot of Squad.

Your best upgrade for budget would be i7 3770k and Over Clock it.

Obviously the GPU needs to be updated as well, Squad likes VRAM.

Sell your CPU and GPU and buy a second hand i7 3770k, a CPU cooler and a GTX 970 and you will have a major upgrade for not alot of money.

You may need  a motherboard that supports overclocking as well of course. (If you need a new mother board then it may be worth considering going to a secondhand i7 4790K).

Also RAM, you need at least 8GB of fast RAM.

Hope that helps.

I don't have direct knowledge on this motherboard, but it would seem the 3770k is compatible and the motherboard supports basic overclocking (a quick web search suggested people had got to stable 4.3Ghz with a half decent CPU cooler).

Which is pretty good news. You have some choices.

Personally I wouldn't bother upgrading anything. I would save up, sell that whole system and buy something more modern and fit for purpose.

Upgrading your rig is only going to yield fairly low results in actual, stable FPS increase and it's fair to say Squad will only ever demand more from our systems as the game grows in feature set and player numbers.

But you can improve this rig, so the choice is yours.
