So currently I have the Comcast Tripple play service and am using the provided Arris Modem that has RJ45 and RJ11 ports on the back. I was wondering if I can use a separate modem strictly for the internet, and still have the other modem connected with just the phone plugged in. I have the current modem set to bridge mode so it does not get a DHCP IP from Comcast unless a router is connected. If any more details are needed please let me know.

i have this setup with my spectrum account, i use their VOIP modem for phone and i use my own personal modem for internet traffic

call customer support and let them know what you want to do and they can send a tech out to prevision your phone/modem combo as phone only and you can use your modem for internet

The CSRs for Comcast are kinda dumb, But I do know this can work. You will have to call in most in likely to get them to provision one for voice and one for internet. The key issue, is how good of a signal do you get from Comcast? Each splitter will degrade the signal. Modems need fairly good signal to work. Make sure you good. You can check your modems signal levels at 192.168.100.1. You compare your signals here: https://www.dslreports.com/faq/5862 to make sure they are good. Then you need to make sure both modems are as close to the main line as possible. Meaning the lest splitters between the modems and the main line the better.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
