So..I know Google is offering a free service but I'm getting a little frustrated over the inability to contact them.

I'm trying to update my phone number for my Google account (since I got a new phone) but I'm not receiving the verification code via SMS. I've been trying for over three days now with no luck. I tried a different number on a different network and the SMS came through instantly suggesting it's a fault with my new network (Three UK). However, I've had no issue with multiple other verification processes and am receiving texts on my new number just fine...

Having contacted Three, they of course said it's not their fault as all texts coming through are unblocked etc etc.

My next best option is to contact Google..except I can't. They have no contact info to speak with an actual person/email as their support/contact page is all pre-answered questions....

What do I do?

Did you transfer your old number to your new phone?

I did that and my bank was not able to send me verification SMS codes because even though the phone number was the same it did not like the phone existing on a new network provider. It took a few months to sort out and I was unable to use 2-factor authentication for some time.

I also had issues with SMS verification codes on my google account.
I had to use the "call" option instead. Which worked.

You should be able to log in your account on your PC, go in the 2-step settings, changing your phone number from SMS/Text notification to "Voice Call".

You might have to "delete" the "default" number first and then re-add it and select Verify by Voice Call instead of Text.

That worked, except it's for two factor verification, not for setting up a recovery phone number. I've posted a Q on the Google forums, hopefully I'll get some advice there :P

By recovery phone, you mean this?

Can't you just add a recovery email instead of going through this headache? Like using an Outlook account to recover your Google account?
