Here's the dealio. I'm looking for a PSU that is at least 850w, and preferably under 150$ maybe a bit over. Fully modular would be nice, but semi is okay to. I also want something very high quality since I will be running pretty high end components with it. I was thinking the Corsair HX 850, but I have heard of some coil whine issues with that particular line of PSU's. Can someone disprove (or confirm) this? If not, any suggestions are appreciated and taken into consideration. If you want an idea of the components that will be running on this system, here is the parts list.

This power supply is really solid. In fact, Corsair just rebrands it in their 860/i series!

Is Silverstone a reputable PSU company?  I know they make good cases, but I have never heard much about there power supplies.

if you wanna go higher and wanna go Corsair get this one http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-ax860i its got Corsair link so you can do all kinds of awesome stuff

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't justify spending $200 on an 860w PSU when there are so many equivalent options for cheaper.  I do love Corsair though.  Decisions, decisions.

It's something that one can't guarantee to confirm. Any PSU can exhibit coil whine, in which the copper in the coils or transformer may be wounded up tighter in one unit than another can cause it. You could used the same PSU on two identical rig, and there's a chance that it may whine in one rig and not the other. There's the possibility of it exhibiting coil whine months later, even though it was find in the beginning.

Whether or not it will have coil whine can be seen as a matter of luck. Of course, you could go with a PSU that attempt to isolate coil whine and reduce the chances of it happening. The RM series from Corsair is one of these. BeQuiet had also been among the companies that also address coil whine as well.

Anyways, do you have any plans on SLI? Because you can power that system on a quality 550w.

Nevermind sorry, you weren't the one who suggested Silverstone.

No problem. Here is a review of a previous model.

Yes, that and maybe adding some more expansion cards if I can fit them in the system.  Also, I don't want to have to get a new PSU in the next system I build if I don't have to.

The AX860i is actually a different unit manufactured by Flextronic.

That's the older Silverstone Strider unit. The one that Mike had linked to is the newer Strider Plus. Here's the review of the 750w model. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=183

This is true. I was assuming Flextronic used SeaSonic parts and added the corsair link technology; obviously there is no proof, so it would be more accurate to say Flextronic makes the 860i.

Silverstone is a great brand for power supplies.  I even use a Strider plus 600w, no issues whatsoever.  In fact the fan goes for 20 seconds after the PC is off to make sure its really nice a cool.  LOVE that feature!

The Cooler Master V850 is a good option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171079

It's internally base on the Seasonic KM3 design used in the XFX ProSeries 850w and Corsair AX860. It uses a better FDB fan for longevity and lower noise. One draw back may be that there isn't that switch to turn on semi fanless mode, where the fan doesn't spin at lower loads. This may make it louder at those loads, but it will run cooler.

It's $159.99 shipped, but has a $30 MIR which effectively makes it a $129.99 PSU. Excellent deal for an excellent high-end unit.

No need for 850w. A good 750w would do for sli: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-rm750
