windows defender turning off

I am running Windows 10 (creator update) and using ESET Smart Security. ESET is running at all times, but every time after startup, the firewall (windows defender) is off and sometimes the virus protection thing (windows defender) is off too. 

I can turn them back on no problem, but do I need to do that? ESET doesn't show any alert that any firewall is off when the windows defender shows that firewall is off.

You already have one of the best antivirus and malware protectors in the market, you really don't need to have Windows Defender running and your firewall is fine.

Windows defender and windows firewall pretty much necessity for windows 10

they won't run if one of it disabled.

 

Now, the ESET security that you use, if I recall it, also have Firewall protection, so the firewall from windows is not necessary neither windows defender.

Do not run 2 Antivirus system at the same time.

Sounds like the real problem is that Windows defender is turning on.  It's designed to automatically turn off when it detects that you have other anti-virus installed, as it should.

I checked again and the settings say that ESET is in charge of the security, so I'm guessing windows defender isn't doing anything like it's supposed to
