Hi guys!

i currently have:

- i5-4670k not overclocked

-with an arctic freezer 13 air cooling

-asus z87 pro mainboard

-gainward gtx 770

While gaming, my gpu is sounding like a dying piece of plastic. Since the gpu is old and really slow, i was looking for a new one but i dont really know what i should get and what would be best for this pc.

The MSI GTX 1060 3gb gaming x was my first choice (230 €) but then i thought that i would need more vram to get better performance over all. going to a gtx 1060 6gb is a kinda big price jump to just get 6gb of vram [...]

i would completely get a new pc in like 2 - 3 years. So i dont know if i should get a 1060 3gb for a cheap price right now. Or should i get a gtx 1070 to build this gpu into my next pc?

What should i do now?

It would be nice if you could help me with my current problem.

thanks a lot!

Felix

1070 would last you longer, but if you're building new I'd get a 480.

Don't bother with the 1060 3GB. If you need something at that price point, get an RX570 4GB instead, unfortunately you're losing a tad bit of performance though. Personally I recommend going with an RX580 8GB, GTX 1060 6GB or if you want a big upgrade and one that'll last, get a 1070.

RX 480 (refurbed/open box/used) or new RX 580. If you just want something to last you 2-3 years while just being able to play games at good framerates the RX 470/570 are good options to look at.

gtx 1060 6GB also has 11% more cuda cores than the cut down 3gb version...so you also get a slightly better GPU...and more VRAM... :)

AMD also have the RX 480 and RX 580 which compete with this card...480 and 580 are the same GPU...the 580 is just a bit more agressive on it's clockspeed but it also consume more power than the 480 and runs hotter.

Get the 6gb 1060, or go up to a 1070 for the future, If you are stuck at the price point then I would also do what others have said... look at the AMD side as that gives a bit more vram.

Some games are capping out 3gb at 1080p... Example: Almost any ubisoft game.

As others have been saying, it's worth the upgrade for the 6gb version because you're not just paying for more vram, it's actually a different gpu

IMO get a 1070 as in the future you will decide it's not good enough and everyone knows computer parts are worth nothing when you sell them compared to what you pay for them new. Invest now and get a 1070 then just buy a second one when you find a good deal.

Thanks a lot for the help guys...

if i would get a gpu that would last me a long time and not just for this stinky pc right now,

i would either get a:

-rx 580 8gb (local price: 309 €)

-gtx 1060 6gb (local price 320 €)

or if i want to break my budget, the gtx 1070 (local price 430 €)

but if i look at the pricing, performance and vram, i would get the rx 580.

is that a good trade or should i invest another 100 € to get the gtx 1070 to get +38% more performance. [http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1070-vs-AMD-RX-580/3609vs3923]
