The most light weight non-intrusive anti virus software?

My parents' laptop is getting more and more annoying with all the bloatware they accidentally installed on it.

I am gonna install a new system on this laptop.

If let's say that I install win10 on it, does the windows defender help when it comes to anti virus?

I don;t want to pay any money for it, I just want to install a basic anti virus on the system.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Yup. It's good for known malware but not so great for zero day malware. You can check out AV-Test and AV-Comparatives for reviews

It is, really. My dad swears by it, and his old i7 870 desktop still holds up pushing 3 monitors and general tasks, and he hasn't reinstalled the OS in 8 years lmfao

Lots of new bloatware like search hijackers, etc can be installed without admin perms.

idk

I've used Windows defender for the last 3 years or so after I got tired of the "ad-less free" programs. Plus it's one less program to download when I reformat

That would be more reason to use Defender, it's easier to convince people it's 'official' since it's from Windows and it's free with no ads. I forget I even have an antivirus sometimes

my dad would stuff his hardware with all kinds of bugs within days if he was relying on defender.

Thanks for allllllll the info folks....

Things changed a little bit, I may have to reinstall windows 7 on it.

I think my parents won't get used to windows 10. They insist that they need a OS that looks like what they have been using.

I can get a copy of windows 7 and cd key, no problem.

Does windows defender works on windows 7? Or I should try other software? If I do, what's your suggestion then?

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

That thing helped more than you think. I am Win 7 interface user but when I got new rig I couldnt without that program navigate in Windows. It is very stable and useful so it is must have on newer versions of Windows

I might have to ask them later. If I installed win10 on it, I will use your method!

Thanks!
