Quad channel memory will work with Z77 motherboards, it just downgrades it's self to dual channel memory, So if you are looking for 8GB memory and you see that it say's quad channel, it is capable with Z77.

True, but picking dual channel vs quad channel memory does not make a deference in performance at all. For an example if you get quad channel memory that runs at 7-7-7-21-1T and lets say it is 1600MHz then it still runs at that rated specs regardless weather it is in quad channel or dual channel.

Triple channel might cause problems? Maybe, I should try it.

Not sure if it would or not since it was built on the x58 platform, I don't see why it couldn't though. It would be a cool experiment to try.
