Iv heard the i7 7700k runs hot  I dont really pland to over clock it my cooler wouls be a nh-d15 with an extra 140mm fan would a locked i7 7700 run cooler and be a better investment ?

The 7700 is fine both with the stock cooler and an aftermarket cooler. Could definitely get away with a single fan on the nh-d15. If you're gonna get a 7700 thought, might want to get an H270 board unless you think you might change your mind later.

Getting the top of the line CPU Cooler like a NH-D15 with a non overclockable CPU is plain stupid.

Stock cooler would do just fine.

If i ran a 4k monitor with one 1080ti on a i7 7700 would i be at a huge fps loss over getting the i7 7700k ?

A locked cpu with a D15 would be a terrible investment.

at resolutions above 1080p, most of the performance is put on the GPU and more Vram is required. The 7700 will be fine and won't cause a bottleneck in that case. But if you want to hold off for a week or so, my buddy who currently has a 7700 and a 1060 3gb is getting a 1080ti. He currently has a 4k TV and the 1060 is killing him at 4k because of the Vram and GPU not being strong enough. As others have stated, a locked chip and an expensive air cooler like the Noctua would be a waste of money. The 212 or something with similar performance and around the $25-$40 price point would be more than adequate.

Yep. The chipsets will not allow you to OC or use the software that would allow it. AI suite is severly limited on what you can do with Fan Xpert being the best thing included. A good board for an H270 is the Asus Prime H270 Plus. Perfect for a 7700 and is only about $100.

dont get a locked chip with a NH-D15, it makes no sense what so ever for that. for a locked chip i would probably slap on a cheap bequiet cooler or something if i cared that much about silence. the I7 7700K will preform better then the I7 7700 either way seeing as its clocked higher in the firstplace

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
