So I have this old sff (nonstandard) Core2Duo machine with 8Gigs of ram. It has no gpu, but can support a low profile card. I know that this it would be overkill, but I'm planning to use it as a backup system in case my PC needs to be taken out of commission. I saw this video and thought that it might be a good idea. Please let me know if it's a good idea or not. Thanks in advanced.

It isn't worth spending money on, it is likely worth about $30 for the entire working computer (with or without that GPU)

actually it can play rocket leauge at 120 with a good card. (Which is one of the main games I play)

Ive looked, and for the low profile card, its more expensive used than a new 1030

I'd be careful. Don't put a card in that needs more power than can be provided.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Well, I can confidently say it will not. I ran a Core2 Duo E7300 and a R9 280 for a while, I couldn't play anything (Including rocket league)

You must have just had a bad time. I have a Core 2 Duo E8400 with a GeForce 9500 GT that can play Rocket League, run MacOS, stream 1080p60 video, and a lot more. It doesn't struggle with gaming.

Love how I asked about a card and then somehow started a war over a core2duo and gaming

Then either the GT 1030 or the GTX 750ti would be perfect match for it indeed, you won't stress the PSU since those are very low TDP cards and they shouldn't be limited by the CPU at all.

You will be able to game any thing you want that was made up to 2012~2013 on full HD for sure.

US, East Coast. Would the C2D bottleneck it? and also does it support the 300w PSU?
