Yes. They actually overclocked better, thus the reason why 5820K was the 6-core Cinebench record holder until the R5 1600X released (because it beat the 5820K's record this year).

The 5820K can overclock better than the 6800K, so when both are overclocked the 5820K is faster

Only when L2 cooled tho -_- The 1600X just can't clock high enough on water. But the 6800K is even worse. If you're going to overclock, the 5820K is better than the 6800K

I've got an i7-5820K at home and it oscillates around 80-85 degrees under load @4,5GHz under a BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler so they overclock decent ^^

6800K overclocks worse and the IPC difference Broadwell to Haswell is marginal, thus why the 5820K was better for overclockers. As for the 1600X, yeah, maybe under LN2 but it can be ran in a cheap-ass board and costs the same as a top-end i5 and not an enthusiast-grade i7 because... Intel :D That's the true beauty of Ryzen, it will either force Intel to lower prices, add more cores to their lineups or both combined.

And we're already seeing it:

- overclockable i3 (i3-7350K) which wasn't released for 6 previous generation but "SUDDENLY" was possible when Ryzen was at bay...

- Pentium with HT (G4560 for instance) which also didn't happen for quite a while (Since Pentium 4 I believe?) - this was a good move from Intel cause the thing is darn cheap...

- Core i9 lineup (supposedly) - MORE COARS

- Next mainstream top-end i7s having 6 cores instead of 4 (finally) and i5s with HT (4C/8T)

Those things didn't happen for the past 6 gens so it's a coincidence it happened now? I'd say fuck that. And wanna know what the worst part is? I bought a brand-new 6700K and a Z170 motherboard because I had no better choice back then... Same with the 5820K 1,5 year earlier... As much as I could like or dislike Intel, I'll buy what's the best for my money at the moment...

OK, this is off-topic but I needed to get it off my chest :P

Yeah, if you get a really good one you can get 4.7-4.8GHz. The average 6800K can overclock to 4.1-4.2GHz and the very good ones overclock to 4.3-4.4GHz *sigh*

So TBH, a 1600 overclocked to 4-4.1GHz would be as fast as a 6800K :D So if the OP wants to purchase a 6800K right now, I think that the 1600 is a much better choice.

It can probably do more under an AIO like my H100i V2 and in a better-airflow case, it's in an NZXT H440 Razer Edition with fans in "Silent Mode" so the case airflow is crap, especially with a huge air-blocking aircooler such as the Dark Rock Pro 3 :P But the main goal for this rig was a quiet workstation so it does what I wanted it to ^_^

Yeah probably, because the 5820K produces a crap ton of heat when overclocked :D

How do you think an ASRock X99X Killer board would handle overclocking of this chip to the limits? Is it a good-enough board? I bought it judging by what features it has compared to the price here in Poland (ASRock is relatively cheap compared to other vendors, same MSI), it's a "gaming"-branded board but the PC is more workstation-oriented so that was not the goal of the purchase. I'm asking specifically about its VRMs and overclocking, you've got an ASRock board too judging by your signature ^_^

It should be able to overclock the CPU to its max. AFAIK it is a very good board. Jayztwocents reviewed it and he got better overclocking results with the X99X Killer than he did with the ASUS X99 Deluxe. Which is pretty amazing if you take into account how much the X99 Deluxe costs :D

I haven't overclocked my 5820K yet, because I need a better cooler before I do that :D All of AsRock's X99 (with the exception of the Extreme3)  motherboards are top notch. AFAIK, the Fatal1ty and Extreme (4 and 6) boards use the same VRM as the OC formula.

Thanks! Gonna watch the vid after work. That board was the reason I went with ASRock again for my Z170 build (aimed at gaming), and the Extreme4 board is amazing for the price (features & quality / $)

Truthfully, I usually go through a lot of chips to find the ones that I do.  I kinda make my own luck.  :D

The 5820K's average under water is roughly 4.53GHz. It's around 4.34GHz on air. To contrast that, the 6800K is 4.16GHz on air, 4.32 on water.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!
