120mm coolers are about the same as Hyper 212 EVO

Thats why no one recommends them.

I have an H55 keeping an overclocked R9 290 cool, so obviously this is not just how the cooler is supposed to perform.

I would suggest running the pump at full speed. Eg. by connecting it to a molex connector from the power supply, via an adapter.

ok so i need a 3pin to molex adapter

then i get the 3pin i have on CPU_FAN right now and connect it straight to the psu using the adapter

this will automatically have the pump running at full speed?

Yep, it just gets full 12V all the time.

The pump will make more noise of course, but it's not loud. You may be able to hear it at idle, when all the fans are at low speed, but once the fans spin up they'll drown it out.

ok i'll try this thnx mate
