First PC Build

Aim

With this build i want to be able to play open world type games and popular titles. And for it to be able to handle production such as recording *music*. 

Reason to Upgrade

Having to upgrade due to my laptop not being able to keep up with today's titles.

• Motherboard - MSI - Z170A ATX 
• Graphics Card - MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8Gb Video Card
• Case - NZXT H440 
• Power Supply - EVGA - 850 
• Ram - *Don't know what to pick*
• Hard drive - Same as Ram

 

I really need the help because,  i don't know if the build is overkill or not. So suggestions would be much appreciated. And if you know of a build that can run today's game at more than 60 fps please drop a link.

Could you explain complete noob here. Also question would Ryzen be better in long run or do i stick with Intel.

I have windows license and i do have my peripherals but a 144hz monitor would be nice.

ryzen 1700 is same as a 5960x/6900k in terms of raw performance
