Having some Trouble with Ultra-wide Gaming

How's it going, guys. I am currently using an ultra-wide, 21:9 aspect ratio monitor, loving the experience for the most part, however, recently I've run into a pretty big problem; when I play games that support ultra wide, I have no issues whatsoever, it's when I play games that don't support ultrawide and the borders of the of the display narrow to 16:9 that I run into high screen tearing and seemingly lower refresh rate. I also have g-sync and 100hz on my display, so it's very easy to tell the difference. One strange thing I've observed is when I change the display mode in options to "borderless windowed" from "fullscreen" the tearing and low frame rate are fixed, but I get much lower performance and higher input lag, as is expected with using the borderless windowed option. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry I cant offer any help,  but this: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/9685213-r-ultrawidemasterrace-Group/ might be worth checking out before buying any new games to see how well hey support 21:9 resolutions. It should help you stop this problem in the future.
