another sata or M.2 SSD for my X58 system?

I need more SSD storage space as games just consumes more and more space. So one more SSD is needed. The problem is just that i have no more sata port free. 3 sata SSD, 4 sata HDD and one sata DVD-drives takes them all.

Right now i have these SSD in my X58 system.

Samsung 950 PRO M.2 NVMe 256 GB

Samsung EVO 250 GB

CRUCIAL MX300 275 GB

CRUCIAL M4 64 GB yes and old one but works perfect.

Since i dont have more free sata ports i whas thinking about getting another M.2 SSD or shut i bite the dust and take my old CRUCIAL M4 64 GB SSD out of use (its just if i take it out its to small for use other places and if i sell it i dont get much for it any way) and get another sata SSD. Use is most for games. What will you guys recommend?

For SSD i thinking samsung 960 EVO if M.2 or if sata Crucial® MX300 525GB or Samsung 850 EVO 500GB. But i am open for other sujestions.

If your motherboard support another M2 ssd natively, why not just buy another one?

I personally will buy another cheap big SATA SSD to replace those 64G old SSD.

X2 you'll get more space for the $ - m.2 drives are nice for boot drives but the money would be better spent on a larger sata drive, I guess a sata HDD is out of the question, of course that would be better still for storage for the $ maybe move some less used stuff over to a an HDD to free up more SSD space you already have?

X58 chipsæt motherboards has no native support for M.2 NVMe SSD and came out way before M.2 came out. Im using a PCIe adaptor for that one i have now.

Sata SSD is the cheapest yes.

But what i want to know what is the fastest solution for games. I mean does game load time benefits from the higher speed of a M.2 SSD or is it the same as a sata SSD,

I bet any difference would be so minimal (probably just few seconds loading time difference).

A few seconds is still better, but for your comment i asume you havent tried it your self?

For those who wunder why i dont just try with my own M.2 SSD. That it is my boot drive and is more or less filled with other programs and software and i like to keep my C-drive as clean as possible so games is on other drives.

I will like to know from people that really have testet with sata and M.2 ssd.

I own both SSD (SM961 128g for m2 nvme, and 850 evo 250g for normal sata), played fallout 4 and multiple others game on both of it and doesn't really notice any loading improvement. Yes I don't try it side by side or time it, it is just not noticeable for me.

In fact I upgraded from normal SATA SSD to NVME just to see any improvement in speed on Windows and gaming, but the only improvement I notice is the nice benchmark number.

It could always be I bought entry level SSD, not pro level SSD.

ah i see. So you have testet it. Well from your comment it looks like M.2 is not the solution then for games.

Sorry Crucial M4 but i will have to unplug you and replace you then.

Thanks for your comment. sata SSD it is then. I can better afford a bigger sata ssd than a M.2 ditto + m.2 i need another m.2 pcie adaptor aswell.
