Possible Power Supply Problem

Recently I bought an Asus GTX 780 and along with that I bought a new power supply but when I went and and installed it I encountered a problem of my computer restarting about 1/2 hour of my GPU running stressed (no OC) this happens in both Unigen Vally and MSI afterburner as these are the only two I have tried could this be a problem that the power supply isn't delivering its full amperage on its 12v rail though. It's supposed to output 48 amps on it?

I got it because it had decent rating on amazon (4.8/5 stars) and I wasn't looking to spend too much If I wasn't going to over clock but would that really be the problem that i'm experiencing

Well it could be something else but I can't really tell you that when you have such a bad PSU there. Amazon reviews doesn't tell you anything about the bad things it does, like lacking critical protection circuits or delivering unclean power that can age or kill components over time. Return it and we can help you find something that doesn't break the bank and is much better (depending on where you live)

Just to make sure I'm going to test my GPU in my friends computer (the only other component I changed) But what other power supply would you recommend? Preferably something under $50 because you see 750 watt 80+ bronze semi-modular Evga power supplies at that point after MIR

In the US?

If that's the EVGA 750W B2 you're talking about, and I suspect it is, get that. Don't get the BQ unless you can't find anything else.

You can drive a 780 on a good 500-500W though. So look for Seasonic S12II 520W or you could do an EVGA 600B if you find it. Not the most amazing PSU but better for sure. Out of those two the Seasonic gets the edge

That PSU has Over/Under voltage/current protection so it'll protect itself and your components once it detects something that's out of spec so I wouldn't really worry about it damaging other parts of your system.

If the fan is not running at all, then I would suggest that you get it replaced from Amazon OR you can always get a replacement from us via RMA process. That PSU is defective.

I hope you don't mind me bashing the VS series though :P

I will concede that you guys did a great job with the new CXM

Not at all, its all good :) At this point, we all know by now where the VS sits in our PSU hierarchy. I just want to make sure that we all deliver the correct message, that's all.

But yeah, I have to agree, the latest iteration of CXM series has been solid thus far. Our PSU team has done a great job of implementing the new spec.

Yeah you'll be pushing its max power so it might get loud, but the S12II 520W will work on an OC 780 and Sandy i5

As long as they collaboration of the two company produce something good as display with the HXi/HX/RMi/RMx in the high-end segment and the new CXM in the budget segment, while I do like to see what they can do with other OEMs, I don't mind Corsair continue using them.
