I am looking into getting some cable extensions for my rig but my mobo only has a 4 pin cpu header and most of the kits i can find have 8 pin cpu cables will this still work or not?

here is an example of the kit i am looking at: https://www.amazon.com/Phanteks-PCI-E-Extension-Length-PH-CB-CMBO-BR/dp/B01G7VSFEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1495134458&sr=1-1&keywords=red+and+black+cable+extensions

and here is my mobo: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Skylake-Motherboard-H110M-Pro-VD/dp/B017NIDYH2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1495134790&sr=1-1&keywords=h110m+pro-vd+motherboard

It's fine if it's 4+4 and 8 pin EPS

so its good if the cpu cable extension is split in the same way as say a 6+2 for a graphics card?

No. The 6+2 format is for graphics cards and the 4+4 is for CPU power, though they both have 8 pins. The pin layouts are completely different so that you can't plug them in wrong.

That being said the kit you have selected will work. you'll just want to tuck the other half of the 4+4 away for a clean look.

Yep but it has to be the CPU power not GPU power

I think the OP meant that the cable physically splits in the same way as the 6+2, not that they were going to use that for the power to the motherboard...

I will only ever answer to the best of my ability - there is absolutely no promises that I will be correct. Or helpful. At all.

Yes, the 8pin cable has a split, just like the 6+2 GPU cable!
