so im purchasing a used build and the motherbaord it has is the 990fx  and ther cpu is a amd 6300 in my current build i have an i5 4440 i was wondeing if i could just swap the cpus over if they board was compatible or if the amd is better and to just stick with that one?

The reason to get Ryzen is better architecture more cores/threads and bigger L3 Cache

Intel is LGA, AMD is PGA

Browse a bit about it

not only that, tons of other things (different pin counts, pins do different things, mobos not supporting other cpus etc.) make it incompatible.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Get your self this mobo https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAD6H5G39304&cm_re=lga_1150_mobo-_-9SIAD6H5G39304-_-Product

and use the i5 4440. Its still a very nice processor and the Ryzen 1400 in gaming only beats it by about 5% in http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-4440-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1400/1993vs3922

Your i5 is better than the 6300. The FX 6300 will be a decent second computer but don't think of replacing the Intel machine with it. Also AMD and Intel are completely incompatible in every conceivably way.

Upgrade the i5 machine instead. FX IPC is low and a dead end. If you must though, i suppose an 8320 would be decent.

And optimization is quite alot
