Hello,

I have my own freenas box with a GBA emulator and some roms in a smb share.  I am able to simply double click on the application and run it from the shared folder without dragging it to the desktop or anything like that.  Does that mean that the application is running on the server or is it still being executed locally?  Also, is there any benefit to copying and pasting from the share to the local hard drive before running the program?

tiny speed benefit, shouldn't matter because the file is ~4MB? and HDDs read sequentially at 100+ MB/s

when you execute the application from the shared folder, its running locally.

138 is a good number.

Think of the FreeNAS server as just a hard drive. It is running on the PC that executed the file, just as it would if you were running it off an internal hard drive.

Moving the files to a local drive before running them would remove any bottleneck from the network.
